COMMUNITY-BASED GOVERNANCE INITIATIVE Header Image

As First Peoples/Nations, we know we have authority (full jurisdiction) granted by the Creator and rooted in our cultures, traditions, and stories. We have collective inherent rights that are deeply intertwined with our responsibilities to all of Creation. Through the Community-Based Governance Initiative, the AIAI First Nations are undertaking work to build capacity to determine how they can build community governance processes, protect their businesses from external infringement, and advance trade & commerce within their Nations.

The work is based in the Communities and directed by the Governance Working Group. To learn more about this initiative, feel free to explore our website.

This project logo illustrates Creating Systemic Change, an ongoing theme in this project work.
It was designed by Shana Elijah from Oneida Nation of the Thames.
Gordon Peters speaks about creating systemic change and the work of establishing governance processes that allow community voices to be heard.
